What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient and extremely gentle form of hands on healing that was rediscovered in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui.
The word Reiki is made up of two words, “rei” and “ki”. Rei means universal or heavenly. Ki is the Japanese spelling for “chi”which is energy or life force. There are many different types of chi, within the body and the environment. Reiki is the type of chi that comes from Source.
Reiki can be done directly on the body, on the energy field around the body, or using Reiki symbols, it can be done from any distance.
Everyone can do Reiki. All that is required to do Reiki is to receive a Reiki attunement from a Reiki master. Once a person receives a Reiki attunement, then they are able to channel Reiki energy.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Reiki treatments are typically done on a treatment table or mat on the floor. The receiver remains clothed and is required to do nothing but relax and remain open to receiving the healing.
The Reiki practitioner places his/her hands on and around the body of the receiver. When receiving Reiki, most people feel the practitioner's hands become hot and experience a deep sense of peace and comfort. Reiki reduces the body's stress response which helps any and all conditions. It relieves pain and anxiety and can induce a deep meditative state in both the giver and receiver.
In addition, Reiki can be used to balance the chakras and the systems within the body. Reiki practitioners will often go right to the place in the body that is hurting without ever being told. Miraculous healings occur everyday with Reiki but they cannot be promised or predicted.
"When I got my first Reiki attunement, It felt kind of magical. I remember thinking it feels really strong. I felt like I could help a lot of my friends that got hurt with the power of Reiki. With my 2nd one, I felt really relaxed and happy and she made learning the symbols easy. Christy was calm and that helped me be calm too."
